Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 12: As a part of the ongoing celebrations for India's 77th Independence Day and in alignment with the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav (AKAM), the Red Ribbon Club of GDC Ukhral organized a symposium titled "Empowerment of Youth: HIV/AIDS Awareness and Prevention." The event, held on International Youth Day, aimed to raise awareness about the critical importance of HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention among the youth.
The symposium witnessed active participation from both students and staff of the college. Professor (Dr) Shallu Samyal, the Patron of the college, inaugurated the program by highlighting the significance of the day and the necessity of awareness campaigns to spread the message that care is the ultimate solution to combating this disease.
Dr. Mehrul Nissa from PHC Ukhral served as the resource person for the day, engaging the audience with a comprehensive discussion on various aspects of the disease and primary preventive measures. Her insights received appreciation from the students for clarifying their queries regarding the disease.
A platform was provided for students to present their papers on the topic, with Sweety Devi securing the first position. The second position was shared by Sohan Singh and Manju Devi, while the third position was shared by Mohd Tamseed Gani and Ab. Qadeer Bali. The judging panel included Prof Zakir Hussain and Prof Suresh Chander.
Prof Zakir Hussain, Prof Suresh Chander, and Dr Shafiq Ahmad Katoch also shared their perspectives on the symposium's topic. Dr. Shafiq Ahmad Katoch, the Coordinator of the Red Ribbon Club, was praised for his dedicated efforts in organizing the program. The proceedings were smoothly conducted by Prof Iftikhar Hussain, the Convener of Debates and Seminar.
In collaboration with 12RR of Ukhral Company, a movie related to the Kargil war was screened for both staff and students, adding a poignant touch to the International Youth Day celebrations and honoring the spirit of the youth.
