GDC R S Pura celebrates national Librarian’s Day with Informative Lecture

RS PURA, Aug 12: The Department of Library Science at Government Degree College (GDC) R.S. PURA marked National Librarian’s Day with an insightful lecture, organized under the auspices of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC). The event, held on August 12, 2023, aimed to enlighten students about the evolving role of librarians and libraries in the digital age.
Under the patronage of Principal Dr. Rajni Bhagat and the supervision of Nisha Bhagat, Librarian and Head of the Department of Library Science, the lecture commemorated the contributions of Dr. S.R. Ranganathan (1892-1972), often referred to as the Father of Library Science in India. The occasion began with the reverent offering of floral tributes to Dr. Ranganathan’s portrait.
Nisha Bhagat, the Librarian, delivered an engaging talk that delved into Dr. S. R. Ranganathan’s life and his profound influence on the field of library science. She underscored his legacy and dedication to the profession, emphasizing the importance of his contributions to India’s library landscape. Expressing her warm wishes on the occasion of Librarian’s Day, Nisha Bhagat shed light on various library resources and services available in the digital era. She elaborated on the Library Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC), the library website, e-content, and other means through which users can seamlessly connect with the library’s offerings. Dr. Rajni Bhagat, the college’s Principal, commended the Department of Library Science for organizing the enlightening event. She acknowledged the efforts put forth by the department to create awareness about the evolving realm of libraries and their pivotal role in disseminating knowledge in the modern age. The event not only celebrated the legacy of Dr. S.R. Ranganathan but also reinforced the significance of libraries as dynamic information hubs, evolving to cater to the changing needs of the digital era.
