JAMMU, Aug 18: State Vice President of the Bharatiya Janata Party and Former Minister, Sham Lal Sharma, passionately advocated for the expansion of religious tourism in the Jammu region. His remarks came during the ceremonial flagging-off of the Budda Amarnath Yatra, an annual pilgrimage from Akhnoor to Poonch. Sharma highlighted the importance of religious tourism as a catalyst for growth and harmony. The Budda Amarnath Yatra, a significant pilgrimage connecting various religious destinations, has attracted numerous visitors from across India. Mr. Sharma emphasized that the development of religious tourism is vital to harness the region's spiritual, cultural, and economic potential. "We've seen a remarkable increase in the number of devotees visiting holy sites in the Jammu region," said Sharma. "It's our responsibility to ensure that these sacred destinations are accessible and equipped to handle the growing number of pilgrims." Sharma praised the efforts of the LG (Lieutenant Governor) administration in ensuring the peaceful and successful conduct of the Amarnath Yatra. He highlighted how religious tourism contributes to communal harmony and interfaith understanding. "The peaceful Amarnath Yatra exemplifies the unity and cooperation that religious pilgrimages can foster," he noted. Additionally, Sharma pointed out the recent international recognition of Hindu cultural identity. "The resonance of 'Jai Shri Ram' in the United Kingdom and the acknowledgment of Hindu faith by their Prime Minister underscore the global recognition of our cultural heritage and spirituality," he stated. The Jammu region is home to revered religious destinations like baba Mai mal, Shiv Khori, and Mangla Mata. These sites are interconnected by a spiritual thread that binds communities and nurtures shared devotion. Sharma's passionate plea for the expansion of religious tourism aligns with the pursuit of progress, inclusivity, and harmony. As Jammu strives to enhance its religious tourism potential, it aspires to welcome pilgrims and visitors from across the nation and the world. Prominent individuals present at the event included Mahant Rameshwar Dass, National Sanghchalak Surya Narayan, former MLA Dr. Krishan Lal, DDC Member Bushan Bral, Prabhari SC Morcha Jagdish Bhagat, SP Rural Rahul Charak, SDM Akhil Sadhotra, SDPO Akhnoor Mohan Lal, DySP (DAR) K D Bhagat, and SHO Akhnoor Zaheer Manhas.
