Panthers stage protest against toll fee collection at Sarore, demand release of Yuva Rajput Sabha leaders

Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 25: The Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) led a robust protest in Jammu today, spearheaded by Vilakshan Singh, the President of the party. Demonstrators voiced their discontent against what they perceive as the dictatorial behavior of the Union Territory (UT) administration.
Singh addressed the media, criticizing the treatment meted out to Jammu by the central BJP government and the UT administration.
He accused them of subjecting the region to stepmotherly treatment.
One of the grievances raised was the imposition of property tax on UT residents by the BJP government, followed by the controversial installation of smart meters to monitor electricity consumption. Singh alleged that numerous complaints regarding the accuracy of smart meter readings have gone unanswered, contributing to residents’ frustrations.
Singh also questioned the administration’s decision to levy toll fees at the Sarore Toll plaza. He argued that demanding toll fees for a road, such as the Kathua-Jammu route, which is in a deteriorated state, seemed unjustifiable. Singh lauded the Yuva Rajput Sabha for highlighting the issue of illegal toll fee collection at the plaza. He expressed condemnation for the administration’s response, wherein leaders of the Yuva Rajput Sabha were detained rather than addressing the issue.
The protest saw participants raising slogans against the UT administration, while also demanding the immediate release of the detained Yuva Rajput Sabha leaders and the removal of the Sarore Toll Plaza. The JKNPP extended its support to the Jammu Bandh, a call for a general strike by the Chamber of Commerce. Singh urged Jammu’s residents to actively participate in the strike to convey their dissatisfaction with what they perceive as government dictatorship.
Among the senior leaders present at the protest were Naresh Chib, State General Secretary; Rajesh Gondhi, State General Secretary; Sham Gorkha, Provincial President; Ravinder Jamwal, State Secretary; Rakesh Gupta, District President; and Sanjeev Verma, District Vice President.
The protest reflects the growing sentiment of dissatisfaction among the residents of Jammu against certain policies and actions of the central and UT administrations. As the situation develops, further actions by the concerned parties are awaited.
