Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 25: Notwithstanding repeated statements of the BJP leaders to vociferously take up the issue of Sarore toll plaza with the Union Government, the party has been isolated as cross sections of the society have extended support to the bandh call given by the Chamber of Commerce and Industries (CCI) on various issues.
All political parties except the BJP have extended support to the CCIS bandh call on Saturday. Although a section of the transporters has not supported Saturday’s bandh call, the group has not opposed it.
Jammu and Kashmir Transporters’ Welfare Association has given a five-day ultimatum to the government to suspend the illegal collection of toll at Sarore and to release all the arrested activists of Yuva Rajput Sabha.
J&K High Court Bar Association Congress, Panthers Party, Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP), and many social and trader organizations have extended support to the bandh.
Highly placed keeping in view the growing peoples’ support for the agitation against Sarore Toll Plaza, a group within BJP wanted the party should support Saturday’s bandh call to stop rivals from taking benefits.
“Congress and other political parties are trying to encash peoples’ anger against some issues so the party must support the bandh call to counter opposition’s gameplan”, a source quoting BJP leader said but added that BJP leadership failed to take any decision due to lack of consensus among senior leaders.
