Notorious narco supplier "Amandeep" convicted, sentenced

JAMMU, Aug 26: In a significant development in the fight against narcotics-related crimes, the Court of Additional Special Mobile Magistrate in Samba has convicted and sentenced the notorious narco supplier "Amandeep" from Bari Brahmana under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The accused, Amandeep, son of Rattan Lal and a resident of Doullian in Tehsil Bari Brahmana, District Samba, has been sentenced to two months of imprisonment and fined Rs. 10,000.00.
The arrest of Amandeep took place on April 27, 2018, when a police team from Police Station Vijaypur was conducting patrolling duty near Shiv Nagar Vijaypur. During a routine frisking, the police discovered 53 grams of charas concealed in a maize cover in his possession. A case was registered against him under FIR No. 61/2018 under sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act at Police Station Vijaypur, initiating the investigation process.
The trial revealed ample evidence connecting the accused with the crime. The Court of Additional Special Mobile Magistrate Samba recognized the evidence presented and found the accused guilty. The successful prosecution, displaying professionalism and dedication, resulted in the conviction of the accused under section 8/20 of the NDPS Act. Amandeep has been sentenced to undergo two months of imprisonment along with a fine of Rs. 10,000.00.
The Senior Superintendent of Police Samba, Benam Tosh, expressed his appreciation for the exceptional work of the investigating officer (IO) of the case, the former Station House Officer (SHO) of Police Station Vijaypur, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Vijaypur, and the prosecution officers and staff involved. Their efforts have resulted in the conviction of the accused, furthering the cause of curbing narco smuggling and distribution in the Samba district.
