Jammu Bandh's success a wake-up call for Govt: Rattan Lal
8/26/2023 10:47:34 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 26: Rattan Lal Gupta, Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) Provincial President for Jammu, hailed today's Jammu Bandh as a resounding success, emphasizing that the people's dissatisfaction with the anti-people policies of the Union Government's proxy administration in J&K is evident. Gupta stated that the public is eagerly anticipating the upcoming elections to voice their concerns against the Saffron party.
Speaking during a protest organized under his leadership at Residency Road, Gupta conveyed the demands of the protesting NC activists, which included the removal of the Sarore Toll Plaza, the cessation of smart meter/prepaid meter installations, and the unconditional release of detained protesters while withdrawing all charges against them.
Gupta emphasized the National Conference's people-centric approach and commitment to addressing the common people's aspirations. He assured that the NC would always stand at the forefront of issues related to the people of Jammu. He reiterated that the NC is the only secular party in J&K, with a proven track record of addressing Jammu's concerns, particularly during its governance in the former state.
The successful protest, according to Gupta, should serve as a wake-up call for the government. He demanded prompt attention to burning issues, including the Sarore Toll Plaza, smart meter installations, and the release of detainees. He warned of a massive agitation across the region if the government fails to address these demands promptly.
Ajay Kumar Sadhotra, former minister and Central Secretary of NC, condemned police atrocities against peaceful protestors and called for the immediate release of detained individuals along with the withdrawal of charges. He noted that the people of Jammu are already on the streets, demanding the removal of the Sarore Toll Plaza and the halt of smart meter installations.
Numerous prominent leaders joined the protest, including Sheikh Bashir Ahmed Provincial Secretary, Babu Rampaul former minister and Central Zone President, Abdul Gani Malik former minister and Zone President Udhamour Reasi, and other party members.
