Early Times Report

Pulwama, Aug 28: Ghulam Nabi Azad, Chairman of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party, addressed a large public rally in Pulwama and promised that if his party is elected to power in Jammu and Kashmir, Pulwama will be developed into a major economic center with a focus on the horticulture and agriculture sectors.
Despite the ongoing fruit harvesting season, Azad assured the people that world-class fruit mandis (markets) with advanced facilities would be established to boost the horticulture sector in Pulwama.
Azad emphasized his belief in the development of the “old Kashmir,” which he claimed witnessed all-round progress 15 years ago when he was Chief Minister. He criticized the current “new Kashmir” model, which he described as causing unhappiness due to high unemployment rates, poor infrastructure, and economic stagnation leading to poverty in rural Jammu and Kashmir.
He outlined his vision of a “Khushaal Jammu Kashmir” under the DPAP’s governance model, which would provide equal employment opportunities for both educated girls and boys. He promised jobs, infrastructure development, electricity, mobile connectivity, and financial stability. He also highlighted opportunities for skilled and unskilled workers by harnessing the region’s full potential.
Azad stated that the DPAP’s manifesto would include plans for revamping poor infrastructure with double and triple shifts, as well as promoting the region during fruit seasons for tourism. He mentioned plans to develop tourist spots like Shadimarg and Gulshanmarg to boost tourism-related infrastructure and provide job opportunities for local youth. Schools and hospitals would also be upgraded.
He cautioned against the use of adulterated pesticides, which had a devastating impact on fruit growers, and compared the situation to Himachal Pradesh, where the government successfully curbed the use of such pesticides.
The public meeting was organized by Abdul Qayoom Dar. Other DPAP leaders present at the occasion included Vice-Chairman G.M Saroori, Treasurer Taj Mohiudin, Zonal President Gulzar Wani, Chief Spokesperson Salman Nizami, Provincial General Secretary Shafiq Shabnam, and various district presidents and officials.
