Early Times Report
JAMMU, Aug 28: The Cultural Committee of Government College for Women Bhagwati Nagar, in collaboration with the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, successfully organized an enlightening Awareness Lecture on Drug Abuse within the college premises. The program aimed to raise awareness among the youth about the dire consequences of drug abuse and its detrimental impact on health and society.
Under the adept leadership of Prof. Parwinder Kaur, convener of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, and with the invaluable guidance of the college's esteemed Principal, Dr. Meeru Abrol, the event unfolded as a significant initiative aligned with the Indian Government's vision for a healthier and prosperous nation, free from the grip of substance abuse.
The event commenced with a warm welcome address by Prof. Parwinder Kaur, who emphasized the importance of the program in contributing to the realization of a drug-free India. Dr. Meeru Abrol, Principal of the college, graced the occasion as the chief guest, delivering a compelling speech that stressed the need for individuals to completely abstain from drug consumption due to its destructive impact on health, futures, and lives. She underscored that drug abuse doesn't only harm individual lives but can devastate entire generations, urging the audience to make informed and wise decisions.
The highlight of the event was the insightful presentation by Resource Person Prof. Anju Bala, who delved into the intricate details of the adverse effects of drug abuse. Prof. Bala shed light on the brain's response to drugs, elucidating how addictive substances flood the brain with dopamine, a neurotransmitter associated with pleasure. This flood of dopamine creates intense feelings of pleasure, but over time, the brain adapts, requiring higher drug doses to achieve the same sensation. Prof. Bala highlighted that this desensitization to natural sources of pleasure, such as family interactions and everyday activities, is a concerning psychological aspect of drug addiction. She earnestly advised the students to distance themselves from drugs in order to lead healthy and prosperous lives.
Dr. Pavanjeet Bali concluded the event with a formal vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all attendees, speakers, and organizers for their dedicated efforts in creating awareness about the grave consequences of drug abuse.
The initiative taken by Government College for Women Bhagwati Nagar through this Awareness Lecture stands as a significant step towards building a drug-free society and aligns with the collective aspiration for a Nasha Mukt Bharat.
