Early Times Report

Jammu, Aug 30: The Economic Offences Wing – Crime Branch Jammu has filed a second charge sheet in just 11 days against Ashiq Hussain, the accused, who is involved in fraudulent activities by impersonating as a Deputy Secretary of the Civil Secretariat. He has been charged under Section 420 and 170 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). This time, the accused duped a complainant by promising government jobs in the Tourism Department for his two sons in exchange for a sum of Rs. 12 lakhs.
The accused had previously deceived an unemployed youth by impersonating himself as a Probationary Officer at J&K Bank and had managed to extract money from him as well. In reality, the accused was a class-IV employee in the PDD Special Division, Gandoh of District Doda.
The case at hand was registered based on a complaint lodged by Mr. Ranjeet Singh Manhas, who detailed the accused's scheme. The complaint was submitted through the Hon’ble Lt. Governor’s Grievance Cell portal. The accused had convinced the complainant that he could secure government jobs in the Tourism Department for his unemployed sons, and in return, he demanded Rs. 12 lakhs.
Upon preliminary verification, Criminal proceedings were initiated against the accused with the approval of Crime Headquarters, as the allegations were found to be prima facie credible. The case was registered under relevant sections of the law, signifying an in-depth investigation into the matter.
Throughout the investigation, both documentary and oral evidence were collected, along with circumstantial evidence. The evidence gathered substantiated the claims of cheating and impersonation, leading to the establishment of offenses under Section 420 and 170 of the IPC against the fraudulent individual.
