Training cum orientation programme held

JAMMU, Aug 31: Dr. M.S. Bhadwal, Dean F.V.Sc. & A.H. of SKUAST-Jammu today inaugurated a one-day training cum orientation programme on "Revival of Cottage Based Industry, Conservation and Branding of ITKs" under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) organized here in the varsity campus.
The training was organized by SKUAST-Jammu in collaboration with the Directorate of Handicrafts and Handloom, Jammu. Dr. M.S. Bhadwal, the chief guest for this programme in his inaugural address highlighted the importance of cottage-based industry for the economic and holistic development of UT of J&K. He congratulated the team of the HADP project for organizing this much-required programme that will help in the overall development and capacity building of the artisans engaged in this sector. Dr. R. K. Bhardwaj, PI HADP welcomed the resource persons/speakers namely Vinod Koul and Tanuj Dogra and the artisans and gave the overall views of the training cum orientation programme. He gave special thanks to the Directorate of Handicrafts and Handloom of Jammu and his project team. The PI said that an MOU will be executed between SKUAST-Jammu and the Directorate in the near future for the smooth functioning of this project. Dr. B. Brahma, Nodal Officer HADP, during his address, focused on the importance of brand development, product authentication and common infrastructure development for the ITKs in different districts of Jammu.
This was followed by a two-way interaction between the experts and the artisans to understand the basic problems of the artisans and weavers in the field. Dr. M.S. Bhadwal emphasized the importance of the adoption of modern technological interventions and equipment/tools for improving the quality of wool-based products and also highlighted the importance of finishing, sorting and grading in the development of good quality woollen articles.
The importance of the revival of the wool board and other aspects such as common facility centres and the role of marketing and designing was also emphasized. Dr. Puneet, Chief Scientist and Head KVK, R.S. Pura discussed the importance of HADP, FPO's and Daksh Kissan portal with the participants.
