Early Times Report
KATHUA, Sept 9: The NSS (National Service Scheme) Units at Government Degree College (GDC) Kathua conducted a comprehensive cleanliness drive and awareness campaign within the college premises as part of their routine activities. The event aimed to promote cleanliness, environmental awareness, and the responsible use of plastic.
NSS volunteers initiated the cleanliness and awareness drive at the main entrance of GDC Kathua and expanded it to various locations, including the Girls Park, NSS Park, BCA Park, English Department Park, NCC Park, and the surroundings of the administrative block. Volunteers diligently collected scattered waste, particularly plastic and polythene, ensuring its proper disposal.
Volunteers engaged with fellow students, urging them to reduce the use of polythene and single-use plastics. They encouraged their peers to become youth ambassadors for the Swacch Bharat (Clean India) campaign and conduct door-to-door awareness drives in their respective communities.
Many students committed to organizing similar cleanliness and awareness campaigns in their neighborhoods, extending the impact of the initiative beyond the college campus.
The campaign aligned with the Swacch Bharat Mission and Azadi ka Amrut Mahotsav, emphasizing the importance of cleanliness and civic responsibility in celebrating India's 75 years of independence.
Principal Prof. Seema Mir interacted with the NSS volunteers before the campaign's launch, commending their dedication and encouraging them to extend their efforts to other college parks. She appreciated the initiatives taken by the NSS Program officers and volunteers.
The event received guidance and supervision from NSS Program officers, including Prof. Manmohan Singh, Dr. Neha Bandral, and Dr. Suresh Sharma. Faculty members, including Dr. Verinder Singh, Dr. Shamsher Singh, and Dr. Jogbinder Singh Soodan, Director of Physical Education, witnessed the drive and expressed their appreciation for the committed efforts of the NSS volunteers.
