Shri Ram Sena raises concerns over commercialization of Jogi Gate cremation ground
9/10/2023 10:04:40 PM
Early Times Report

JAMMU, Sept 10: Shri Ram Sena, Jammu and Kashmir, has expressed deep concern about ongoing attempts by unscrupulous individuals to convert the revered Jogi Gate cremation ground in Prem Nagar, Jammu, into a commercial complex.
In a statement issued today, Rajiv Mahajan, President of Shri Ram Sena, Jammu & Kashmir, voiced his apprehension over the alarming construction activities taking place near the main entrance of the historic Jogi Gate.
Mahajan expressed disappointment, revealing that certain unscrupulous elements are actively involved in constructing shops on the sacred grounds of the Jogi Gate cremation ground.
It is important to note that these shops had previously been demolished by the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) under the leadership of the then JMC Commissioner, Avny Lavasa. This demolition was carried out due to the construction work being initiated without the necessary permissions.
Mahajan stated that the previous shops built on the Jogi Gate land were sold to individuals under the pretext of ‘Pagri,’ with these shops subsequently being falsely categorized as ‘Karayanama’ or rented basis in official records.
Mahajan expressed his fear that if the ongoing illegal construction at Jogi Gate is not promptly halted by the administration, these unscrupulous individuals may successfully sell these shops at exorbitant prices, only to deceptively categorize them as ‘Karayanama’ once again.
Furthermore, Rajiv Mahajan called upon these unscrupulous elements to cease their efforts to carry out illegal construction on this sacred site. He emphasized the universal truth that regardless of one’s background or beliefs, every individual ultimately completes their final journey at a cremation ground.
He stressed that the preservation of cultural and sacred sites is not solely the responsibility of the government and authorities but a collective duty shared by all members of society.
He urged the community to unite in safeguarding the heritage and legacy of Jogi Gate for the benefit of current and future generations.
Rajiv Mahajan appealed to the Lieutenant Governor to intervene in this matter and instruct the relevant authorities to take immediate action to halt the ongoing illegal construction at Jogi Gate.
