DC inaugurates Maiden Cataract Surgery Camp at Raja Sukhdev Singh district Hospital

POONCH, Sept 13: Deputy Commissioner Poonch, Yasin M. Choudhary today inaugurated the first-ever Cataract Surgery Camp at Raja Sukhdev Singh District Hospital Poonch.
The camp, organized under the direction of Administrative Secretary of the Health and Medical Education Department, Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory, Dr. Bupinder Kumar and on the recommendation of the District Development Commissioner, aimed to provide essential eye care services to the community.
Director Health services Jammu Dr. Rajiv Sharma deputed a team of three skilled Eye Surgeons and three Eye Technicians from Government Hospital Gandhi Nagar, Jammu, Sub District Hospital Akhnoor, SDH RS Pura, and GMC Rajouri to conduct the surgeries. Their expertise and dedication ensured the successful completion of the surgeries.
On the first day of the camp, a total of 23 cases were registered for cataract surgeries, out of which 20 surgeries were performed with utmost precision and care. The patients expressed their gratitude to the medical team for the improved vision and enhanced quality of life they can now experience.
Encouraged by the positive response and the need for further intervention, the district authorities have scheduled another Cataract Surgery Camp from September 18 to September 22, 2023. Two teams of experienced Eye Surgeons will be deployed during this camp to conduct the surgeries, ensuring a greater number of individuals can benefit from the program.
During the inauguration, the Deputy Commissioner personally interacted with the patients, listening to their experiences and assuring them of continued support in improving healthcare services. He also conducted inspections of various wards, ensuring the provision of adequate facilities and patient care.
In addition to the activities at Raja Sukhdev Singh District Hospital Poonch, the Deputy Commissioner visited PHC Chandak, PHC Lassana, and Sub District Hospital Surankote to review the functioning of health services. He assessed the conditions of the wards and took stock of the hospitals, emphasizing the importance of maintaining high standards of healthcare delivery.
The success of the first Cataract Surgery Camp reflects the commitment of the district administration and healthcare professionals in providing accessible and quality eye care services to the residents of Poonch.
The overall management of the camp is managed by Medical Superintendent District Hospital Poonch, Dr. Zulafkar and Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Anees Altaf Nabi Poonch under the supervision of Director Health Services, Jammu and District Development Commissioner Poonch.
