Early Times Report
RAMGARH, Sept 25: Government Degree College (GDC) Ramgarh continued its series of meaningful activities by organizing a thought-provoking Group Discussion on the topic "Gandhiji's Contribution to Indian Education" to commemorate Gandhi Jayanti, which took place on September 25, 2023. The event was conducted under the esteemed guidance and coordination of Prof. (Dr.) Geetanjali Andotra, the Principal of the College.
A total of 20 enthusiastic students actively participated in the discussion, sharing their valuable insights on Gandhiji's profound impact on the Indian education system. Prof. (Dr.) Geetanjali Andotra, the Principal, highlighted Gandhiji's vision for education, emphasizing his advocacy for education in one's mother tongue and activity-centered learning. She noted that Gandhiji aimed to cultivate skilled and independent individuals through education. His vision included the construction of small, self-reliant communities, with ideal citizens being industrious, self-respecting, and generous individuals. In Gandhiji's educational philosophy, the holistic development of a child's personality held greater importance than mere literacy or knowledge of various subjects.
Dr. Paramjeet Kour from the Department of Education emphasized Gandhiji's belief that education should foster the harmonious development of all aspects of an individual's personality, with a significant focus on moral and character development.
Dr. Priya Sharma from the Department of Sociology highlighted Gandhiji's aspiration for local crafts to serve as the medium of education for children. This approach aimed to nurture their minds, bodies, and souls harmoniously, preparing them for their future lives.
