Jammu, Sept 25: Over five months after detecting nearly ten lakh bogus beneficiaries, the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department has identified a large number of government employees who are getting subsized ration under the Below Poverty Line (BPL) category.
Taking serious note after detecting a large number of such employees, the CAPD Department has issued a warning to the government officials and pensioners holding Below Poverty Line (BPL) ration cards in Kashmir.
These employees and pensioners have been asked to surrender their BPL cards as early as possible to avoid action.
Sources said that it was all due to blunders committed during the previous regimes that many undeserving families have managed to get BPL cards while as many deserving poor families were denied BPL category due to apathic attitude of the elected representatives.
As Jammu and Kashmir Government detected more than ten lakh bogus beneficiaries, who were getting subsidized ration from the outlets of the Department of the Food, Civil Supplies and Public Distribution across the Union Territory.
Reports said that fake ration cards were detected during the e-verification process which was launched to single out duplicate cards. After getting information regarding fake ration cards, the department has started re-verification of all cardholders through Aadhaar cards.
Reports said that there are 24.80 lakh ration card holders in J&K covering a population of 96.74 lakh beneficiaries with cent percent Aadhaar Seeding.

The thumb impressions and other details of the consumers were entered online during e-verification to detect fake consumers.
Not only natives of Jammu and Kashmir but some non-locals were also singled out for getting ration from two places.
