DODA, Nov 2: Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Jammu and Kashmir Branch Office, today conducted the first of its kind sensitisation programme for Sarpanches and Panchayat secretaries of Dali-Udyanpur block of district Doda.
The programme was conducted by Standard Promotion Officer (SPO) Ashish Kumar Dwivedi and BIS Resource Person Raja Amir Karim was also present on the occasion.
During the programme Sarpanches and Panchayat Secretaries from the block became part of this programme which was attended by several local people as well.
Speaking on the occasion, Ashish Dwivedi gave the overview of the working of BIS and the purpose of holding the sensitisation programme at block level.
He explained the need of looking for ISI marked products for the betterment of the people on the whole. “There are mandatory and non-mandatory ISI marked products being produced by factories and BIS provides license to these factories who adopt standards of BIS.
It is in the best interest of the people in general and country in particular to opt for ISI marked products which helps the country to grow,” he added.
The SPO provided information about hallmarking of gold and how one can differentiate between hallmarked and non-hallmarked gold. He also demonstrated the BIS Care App to the members and asked them to download the same from the google play store.
BIS Resource Person Raja Amir Karim emphasised upon reaching out to the people at panchayat levels and making them aware about standardisation.
He asked panchayat secretaries and block development officers to opt for ISI marked products in tenders of works being floated by the rural development department.
BDO Dali-Udyanpur Yasir Hussain Wani appreciated the BIS team for choosing his block to start the sensitisation campaign in the district and hoped that in future also the relationship between the department and BIS will grow heaps and bounds. “There were many things which we were not aware about but are required in the daily life of a man. This information will certainly help us in our official and personal lives,” Wani added.
Speaking on the occasion, Sarpanch Bharath-A panchayat Muhammad Abdullah Banday said that they have attended various programmes of different departments but the information shared with them today was unique which is important for their daily life as well as works initiated by PRIs.
“We hope that such programmes are conducted at grassroot level as well and people will be benefitted,” Banday added.
