PDP leader ‘annoyed’ over providing facilities to Amarnath pilgrims

Early Times Report

Jammu, Nov 6: While devotees of Lord Shiva across the world are elated over the starting of work to widen the Amarnath Yatra routes from Pahalgam and Sonamarg, the general secretary of the youth wing of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) is unhappy with the providing facilities to the pilgrims.
The PDP youth wing general secretary and spokesperson of the party raised ecological concerns to oppose the construction of the roads to ensure interruption-free pilgrimage in case of hostile weather conditions.
Taking to social media, People's Democratic Party Spokesperson and Youth General Secretary Mohit Bhan , condemned the recent developments, stating, “This is not history; it's the biggest crime one can commit to Hinduism & its faith in nature. Hinduism is all about immersing in spiritual mother nature; that's why our pilgrimages are in the lap of the Himalayas. Turning religious pilgrimages into picnic spots for mere political gains is worthy of condemnation. We have seen the wrath of God in Joshimath, Kedarnath and yet we are learning no lessons instead are inviting a catastrophe in Kashmir”.
According to the official handout of the PDP, the cautionary reference to the catastrophic incidents in Joshimath and Kedarnath underscores the potential dangers of interfering with the delicate ecological balance of these revered sites. Both locations have previously borne the brunt of nature's fury, serving as stark reminders of the devastating consequences of unchecked development and environmental tampering.
Bhan further argued religious pilgrimages should be regarded as sacred journeys requiring sincere devotion and spiritual contemplation, rather than transforming them into casual tourist destinations. The wanton commercialization and political exploitation of these revered sites not only disrespect the religious sentiment but also pose a significant threat to the delicate natural ecosystems.
As reported earlier, first time in history vehicles of the BRO reached the track and started the work.
The Amarnath yatra routes through Pahalgam and Sonamarg will be widened with railings by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).
Reports said that BRO has deployed machines and teams to start the work.
In April this year, Union minister Gadkari said that tenders for the Rs 5,300 crore project announced for the Amarnath pilgrimage likely by year-end; will bring travel time from Srinagar down from three days to seven-eight hours.
