After being left alone, Azad busy in self projection

Early Times Report

Srinagar, Nov 10: Chairman of Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) and former J&K chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad after being left alone is trying his best to send a message to people of Jammu and Kashmir that he only can lead them.
Addressing a function in Kashmir on Friday Azad said, “While I have throughout my career cared for my image and served people without any personal interests, I want all my workers and leaders to take the same route and serve people selflessly. You will see people will respect you and won’t need to go door to door campaigning as people will respect you.”
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, “When Azad formed his party, he was under the impression that his loyalists will follow him blindly. Initially top Congress leaders from Jammu and Kashmir regions joined his party but after they understood that Azad too is one among the leaders standing in the queue, they went back to the Congress.”
He said, “Ones who had joined him were under the notion that Azad would be given a coveted position and it would pave the way for them to return to power corridors.”
Pertinently, Azad had launched his party DPAP after snapping 50-year old ties with the Congress Party amidst fanfare. “Despite’s Azad’s tall stature he has been unable to make much impact on the ground as the political situation in J&K has changed completely after August 5, 2019 (when the Centre announced its decision to abrogate J&K’s special status and bifurcated it into two Union Territories),” the analyst added.
He said, “There are a few people who have joined Azad but his party has not been able to strike a chord with the people as the common man has witnessed massive development of the region during the past four years.”
An observer said, “Azad is trying hard to project himself as the viable alternative for all Kashmir based leaders but the fact remains that his party is struggling to exist and not many people are paying much attention towards his activities.”
