Early Times Report

Srinagar, Nov 11: A day after PDP leader Abdul Ahad Yatoo from Pattan joined Democratic Progressive Azad Party, president of the DPAP, Ghulam Nabi Azad, found the gate of late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s mausoleum locked in Anantnag on Saturday.
Azad could not visit the grave of the former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister and PDP founder. Azad and other DPAP leaders had to offer the fateha from outside the fencing of Sayeed’s mausoleum at Bijbehara in Anantnag.
“We had come to offer fateha for Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. He was a tall leader. The door is locked, we don’t know who did it, but we condemn it,” a DPAP leader told reporters.
It was not known that who locked the door but PDP remained tightlipped over the issue. Pertinently, during the past few months a good number of PDP leaders and workers have joined Azad led party and there has been lot of bitterness among both the parties.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, “PDP has been grappling with the number of issues. It has been finding hard to keep its flock together.”
He said, “Some PDP leaders are of the opinion that DPAP has been luring their workers and leaders by creating a notion that PDP has hit a dead end and it has no future.” An observer said, “Azad and other DPAP leaders finding gates of late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s Mausoleum locked is a snub to them that they are not welcome in PDP’s constituency. Anantnag has been traditionally a stronghold of the Peoples Democratic Party.”
He said, “Azad seems to have understood that his party has not been able to make much impact in Jammu region and response in Chenab Valley, home turf, of Azad has been luke warm. Now he is trying to make inroads in the areas of Kashmir based parties and these formations are resisting his attempts.”
