JAMMU, Nov 16: District Development Commissioner, Sachin Kumar Vaishya today chaired a special public outreach event at Surinsar panchayat in block Nagrota as part of the Back to Village 5 programme.
DDC Member, Rahat Ali and Sarpanch, Bodh Raj were also present on the occasion.
The event witnessed participation of public representatives, Panchayati Raj Institution representatives and the public who raised their concerns about local issues and demands for the overall benefit of the local population.
PRI representatives raised problems like the monkey menace and frequent power disruptions, urging the administration to fast-track road projects crucial for connectivity. The public emphasised the need for revenue permissions and resolution of wildlife and forest-related issues. They also requested a Primary Health Centre and an ATM. The DDC assured a prompt review and prioritised resolution of these matters.
Additional concerns were presented, including the demand for subject-specific teachers in the local higher secondary school and updates on Jal Shakti works. The DDC assured routine availability of doctors and ongoing efforts for enhanced health facilities.
In his address, the DDC stated, “The district administration is working like a team to address all public issues,” and reassured that a lot has improved in the past few years, emphasising that development is a gradual process.
He informed the gathering about the Jan Bhagidari portal, stating, “Almost all services can be availed through the portal, eradicating hassles and reducing the scope for corruption.”
Speaking on the occasion, SSP Dr. Vinod Kumar highlighted the urgency of tackling the drug menace through public cooperation. He urged sharing information on drug-related issues with the police and emphasised the link between drug consumption and peddling.
The SSP informed about de-addiction and counselling facilities and increased police action against drug-related crimes.
