Ramban Police Launches Operation KAMDHENU, Rescues 358 Bovine Animals, Nabs 17 Smugglers

Ramban, Nov 16: In a decisive crackdown on bovine smuggling, Ramban Police, under the directive of SSP Mohita Sharma-IPS, successfully rescued 358 bovine animals in the past three weeks under Operation KAMDHENU. The relentless efforts of the police have resulted in the interception of sixteen different vehicles carrying the smuggled animals.
The intercepted vehicles, with registration numbers JK03H-9378, JK02AP-8887, JK19A-0062, JK02CC-1144, JK19A-8763, JK02AR-3144, JK22B-1314, JK03H-6841, JK02CE-3344, JK19A-7444, JK02AR-8377, JK02D-0271, JK14F-1758, JK19-0062, JK19A-7444, JK02CW-0158, were en route from Jammu to Srinagar. Upon inspection, all vehicles were found loaded with a total of 353 bovine animals, subjected to inhumane conditions, lacking provisions for food and water. Additionally, five bovine animals were being transported on foot illegally towards Kashmir, bringing the total rescued to 358.
In response to these illicit activities, Ramban Police registered seventeen cases at Police Stations Batote, Chanderkote, Ramban, Ramsoo, and Gool. A total of seventeen accused individuals were booked in connection with these cases. The seized vehicles and all accused persons have been arrested under relevant sections of the law, with investigations currently underway.
The operation was executed by police teams under the command of SHOs from Police Stations Batote, Chanderkote, Ramban, Ramsoo, and Gool, working under the supervision of Dy.SP Hqrs Ramban, SDPO Banihal, and SDPO Gool.
SSP Mohita Sharma-IPS affirmed the commitment of Ramban Police in curbing the menace of bovine smuggling and urged the public to support the cause by sharing information with the police for timely interventions. The district police are determined to take every necessary step to eliminate bovine smuggling activities, ensuring the safety and well-being of the animals involved.
