KVK educates tribal farmers on natural farming

REASI, Nov 21: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) organized one day awareness-cum-training programme on natural farming for income generation among tribal farmers here today at Jadh village in Reasi district of J&K which was enthuastically attended by a number of tribal farmers of the village. The programme was organized under the dynamic stewardship of Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Prof.BN Tripathi and able guidance of Director Extension, Prof.SK Gupta of SKUAST-J.
The objective of the programme was to educate and train the tribal farmers on natural farming and guide them on the significance of natural farming. Sr.Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi, Dr.Banarsi Lal commenced the programme with the warm welcome of the participants. He briefed the significance of the programme and highlighted the role of natural farming for the sustainability in agriculture. He spoke on the preservation of ecosystem and added that hilly areas have an immense potential in natural farming and the farmers of these areas can develop entrepreneurship in natural farming by commercially producing the safe and quality food. He further said that natural farming is beneficial for the maintenance of soil health, human health and environment by keeping away the harmful effects of chemicals used in agriculture. He stressed on the cluster based approach required for natural farming and discussed in detail on the transition strategy required in natural farming. He further said that natural farming is agro-ecology based farming which integrates crops, trees, livestock and functional biodiversity. He added that natural farming is helpful to reduce the cost of cultivation as there is no need to purchase the agro-inputs required for natural farming from the outside. He added that tribal farmers should avail more and more benefits from the agricultural and allied sectors schemes undergoing in the district. He also spoke on the Janjatiya Gaurav Divas initiated on 15th of Nov. and will undergo upto 26th of November and discussed on Viksit Bharat Sankalp Yatra. He stressed on the Farmers Producer Organisations (FPOs) for rural development. The scientist elaborated the techniques on the formulation of natural farming inputs such as Jeevamrit, Beejamrit, Panchgavya, Ghanjeevamrit etc. and also elaborated the practices of mulching, Acchadana and various other biocontrol agents required for the natural farming. Participants asked various quarries regarding the natural farming which were answered satisfactorily by the scientist. Various key points on natural farming were also discussed during the programme. Participants thanked KVK, Reasi for organizing such a useful programme. The programme was assisted by Sh.Manohar Lal and concluded by Dr.Banarsi Lal with the formal vote of thanks.
