NEW DELHI, Nov 21: The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has issued a stern advisory to television channels regarding the ongoing rescue operations at Silkyara, Uttarakhand. In a press release, the Ministry urged media outlets to refrain from sensationalizing the rescue efforts and cautioned against undertaking live broadcasts or videos from the close proximity of the tunnel site where the operation is in progress.
The advisory emphasized the critical nature of the rescue operation and stressed the need to ensure that the activities of various agencies involved in the operation are not disrupted or disturbed by the presence of cameramen, reporters, or equipment near the site. The government is maintaining constant communication and making all possible efforts to boost the morale of the workers trapped in the 2 km-built tunnel portion.
As 41 workers await safe evacuation, the Ministry highlighted the sensitive nature of the ongoing operation and the potential adverse impact of telecasting video footage and images from close proximity to the rescue site. The safety and well-being of those involved in the rescue, including workers and rescue personnel, are of utmost priority.
The advisory urged TV channels to exercise caution and sensitivity in reporting on the matter, particularly in crafting headlines and sharing videos and images. It emphasized the need to consider the sensitive nature of the operation, the psychological status of the family members, and the impact on viewers in general.
The Ministry's detailed advisory can be accessed [here](link to the advisory). The government is committed to ensuring a responsible and measured approach to reporting on the ongoing rescue operations in Silkyara, with a focus on the safety and well-being of all involved parties.
