12/10/2023 10:10:44 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT

Jammu, Dec 10: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J)'s Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) in Reasi is proud to announce that two progressive farmers, S. Gurdev Singh from Bharakh village and Sh. Tilak Raj from Sirah village in Reasi district, Jammu & Kashmir, have been honored with the prestigious 'District Millionaire Farmers of India Award 2023.'
The recognition comes in acknowledgment of their outstanding contributions to the cultivation, product development, and value addition of medicinal and aromatic plants, horticultural crops, and organic farming.
The accolades were presented during the three-day Millennium Farmers Meet held at the Indian Agriculture Research Institute (IARI), Mela Ground, PUSA, New Delhi, from December 6th to 9th, 2023.
The awards, sponsored by Mahindra Tractors and presented by Krishi Jagran, serve to highlight the exemplary work of farmers who are making significant strides in the agriculture sector.
S. Gurdev Singh and Sh. Tilak Raj have distinguished themselves by establishing medicinal and aromatic plant units as well as horticultural crop units on their farms.
Their efforts have not only yielded successful results but have also served as inspiration for fellow farmers in the region.
Observing the positive outcomes, other farmers from various villages are now expressing keen interest in cultivating medicinal and aromatic plants, horticultural crops, and adopting organic and natural farming practices.
Dr. Banarsi Lal, Senior Scientist & Head of KVK Reasi, emphasized the promotion of medicinal and aromatic plants in areas affected by monkeys, as these crops remain unaffected and offer higher returns for farmers.
He stressed the importance of commercial cultivation in enhancing income and employment opportunities for farmers in hilly areas. Dr. Banarsi Lal highlighted the need for value addition in medicinal and aromatic plants, particularly in areas affected by monkey intrusions, to further increase farmers' income.
