Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 10: As the Supreme Court is all set to announce its judgment on the pleas challenging abrogation of Article 370 on Monday, Kashmir based parties i.e. National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party are trying to send a message that the Supreme Court is likely to uphold Centre’s August 5, 2019 decision to scrap J&K’s special status.
National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah on Sunday said that his party will not disturb the peace in J&K even in case of an “adverse” Supreme Court verdict on petitions challenging the abrogation of the provisions of Article 370 of the Constitution. “The Supreme Court has to give its verdict, let it. If we had to disturb the situation, we would have done it after 2019. However, we said it then and we reiterate it now that our fight will be peaceful and in accordance with the Constitution, taking help of the law for
protecting our rights and preserving our identity,” Omar said while addressing a party convention in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Meanwhile, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti has voiced apprehensions regarding the impending Supreme Court verdict on the Article 370 case. “First Supreme Court took 5 years to hear Article 370 case but given the Supreme Court previous several judgments that without constituent assembly Article 370 cannot be removed, so the final verdict should be simple and straight that the August 5 2019 decision was unconstitutional,” she said. “However, as far as precautions being taken in J&K by police and security forces are concerned, it seems that the verdict will be against the petitions challenging Article 370 abrogation ,” she added.
