All Party Action Committee for Migrants raises urgent concerns
12/18/2023 11:44:11 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Dec 18: In a recent joint statement issued by the All Party Action Committee Migrants following a crucial meeting, several pressing issues affecting the residents of Jagti Camp and TRT Nagrota camps have been brought to the forefront. The committee members have urgently called upon the government and concerned authorities to address the following concerns promptly:
Matador vehicles commuting between Jagti Camp and Indira Chowk Jammu have reportedly denied transportation to students from Jagti and TRT Nagrota camps, causing significant inconvenience. The committee appeals to the Regional Transport Officer Jammu, SSP Traffic Jammu, and SSP Jammu to investigate and resolve this issue promptly. Additionally, the delayed operation of three sanctioned electronic buses from Indira Chowk to Jagti Camp is highlighted, urging the concerned authorities to expedite their deployment.
The committee calls upon the government and the Chief Engineer of the Electricity Distribution Department in Jammu to address the severe power supply curtailment during evening and night hours in Jagti Camp. The curtailment is negatively impacting the study hours of students, and the committee requests a reduction in curtailment to a maximum of four hours instead of the current eight hours.
Expressing disappointment with the JalShakti Department, the committee notes the department's failure to take over the Water Supply Scheme of the Migrant Camp as per Government Order No. 381 Of 2021. The committee appeals to the department to promptly assume control of the scheme to ensure the provision of hygienic water supply to camp inmates.
The committee raises concerns about the delayed initiation of repairs, maintenance, and related works by the R&B/PWD Division Nagrota for Camp Buildings. Urging authorities to commence these works immediately, the committee emphasizes the need for a systematic approach starting from Block I to Block 176 after necessary verification of required repairs and renovations.
Members highlight the need to streamline sanitation works, ensuring that every bylane and park in Jagti Camp is maintained to public standards. The committee requests the Camp Commandant to personally oversee sanitation efforts and the cleaning of all parks.
The committee appeals to the Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner to prioritize the allocation of already constructed shops to shopkeepers operating in private shops from Lane No.1 to Lane No.08. This request is made with the backdrop of the earmarked land for the construction of a Virology Laboratory.
Demanding the macadamization of all lanes, bylanes, back and front side roads in Jagti Camp, the committee calls for the immediate deployment of at least fifteen police personnel, with guards stationed at entry and exit gates. Furthermore, the installation of CCTVs and the provision of street lights throughout the camp are urged.
In conclusion, the committee expresses hope that these pressing concerns are addressed promptly to improve the living conditions and overall well-being of Jagti Camp residents.
