KVK begins training programme on natural farming

REASI, Dec 20: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the administrative control of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies Jammu (SKUAST-J) began two days training programme on natural farming under "Up scaling of Natural Farming" project here today at Kheral village in Reasi distt. of J&K which was enthusiastically attended by a number of farmers of the area. The programme was organised to train the farmers on natural farming and guide them on the various practices required for natural farming so that they can they can start entrepreneurship in natural farming.
The programme was organized under the dynamic stewardship of Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Prof.BN Tripathi and able guidance of Director Extension, Prof.Amrish Vaid of SKUAST-J.
The programme was inaugurated by the Chief Agriculture Officer (CAO), Reasi, Harbans Singh who was the Chief Guest on the occasion. He said that Reasi district of J&K has huge potential in natural farming and the farmers can generate more income by producing the safe and healthy food through natural farming. He stressed on the community based approach required for natural farming.
He narrated that natural farming is agro-ecology based farming which integrates crops, trees, livestock and functional biodiversity. He discussed on the importance of farm fields as a source of organic matter and spoke on the usage of indigenous seed and bioinoculants as the catalyst required for natural farming. Sr.Scientist and Head of KVK, Reasi, Dr.Banarsi Lal warmly welcomed the Chief Guest and participants and briefed the significance of natural farming. He said that for a healthy society, quality and healthy food is required and natural farming can play a significant role for the production of safe and healthy food. He said that natural farming is the need of the era and informed that it is beneficial for the maintenance soil health and environment. He elaborated the pillars of natural farming. He expressed that natural farming is a promising means of reducing the dependence of farmers on external inputs, reducing the cost of cultivation and increasing the income of the farmers. DDM, NABARD, Reasi, Sh.Adarsh Gupta discussed on Atam Nirbar Krishi and emphasised on the adoption of natural farming for more returns. He elaborated various banking schemes for the farmers and appreciated KVK, Reasi efforts for the welfare of the farming community. Narinder Paul, Agriculture Extension Officer (AEO), Pouni, Reasi, Ajeet Singh, CEO, Maa Vaishno Devi FPO, Sirah, Reasi, Progressive Farmer, Tilak Raj, Noor Fatima, Sarpanch of the area and Anita Devi, awardee woman farmer of the area also spoke during the event.
