JAMMU, Dec 21: A comprehensive Two-Day Workshop on "Effective Tax Planning and Strategies for Financial Management" was inaugurated at the Government College for Women, Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu, yesterday. The event, held under the Chief Patronage of Alok Kumar (IAS), Principal Secretary Higher Education Department, Govt. of J&K UT, witnessed the active participation of renowned figures in the field of finance and education.
The workshop, a collaborative effort led by Dr. Yasmeen Ashai, Director Colleges Higher Education Department, Govt. of J&K UT, and Dr. Meeru Abrol, Principal of the college, aimed to enlighten participants about the significance of effective tax planning and financial management.
The inaugural session, presided over by chief guest Dr. Meeru Abrol, emphasized the pivotal role of effective tax planning in managing finances. Dr. Abrol highlighted that effective tax planning goes beyond mere compliance, focusing on optimizing financial resources to foster growth and stability. She underscored the importance of ethical and legal methodologies in maximizing savings and investments.
CA Vineet Kohli, the keynote speaker, provided valuable insights into relevant saving options and elucidated the distinctions between tax evasion and tax planning. His address delved into the Income Tax Act of 1961, exploring various heads under which participants could save and plan taxes effectively. An interactive session allowed participants to raise queries, receiving prompt and satisfying answers.
The workshop commenced with the lighting of the lamp and Saraswati Vandana, followed by a formal welcome address by Prof. Nisha Bhagat, Coordinator IQAC. Students of the college showcased a cultural program to mark the occasion.
Distinguished Principals from various degree colleges, including Dr. Ashu Vashisht, Dr. Sujata Salathia, Dr. Pritpal Kour, and Dr. Romilla Malla, graced the inaugural session. The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Dr. Pavanjeet Bali, Coordinator Career Counselling Cell.
The subsequent technical sessions, coordinated by Dr. Pavanjeet Bali, featured CA Numeet Verma discussing tax planning purposes and deductions in detail. Hands-on training on Income Tax Return filing was provided, allowing participants to file dummy ITRs.
On the second day, Daleep Singh Bhutyal, Managing Director ONS Insurance and Investment Consultancy Services, discussed financial planning strategies for present and future goals. Anshika Gupta and Urvika Gupta, Relationship Executives of J&K Bank Financial Services Ltd., explored DEMAT Account, Mutual Funds, Share Market, and risk diversification in the portfolio management.
The valedictory session, led by Prof. Gagan Jyoti, Head of the Department of Commerce, featured a detailed report on the workshop, highlighting its significant events and takeaways.
