International webinar on horticulture strengthens collaborative efforts between India, Indonesia

JAMMU, Dec 22: In a groundbreaking collaboration, Professor Iskadar Z. Siregar, Vice Rector of IPB Bogor Agriculture University, and Prof. B.N. Triphathi, Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor of SKUAST-Jammu, inaugurated an international webinar on horticulture. This event, focusing on the significant role of horticulture in Indonesia's economy, marked a crucial milestone in fostering collaboration between Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-Jammu) and IPB Bogor Agriculture University.
The webinar was inaugurated by Prof. Iskadar Z. Siregar and Prof. B.N. Triphathi, emphasizing the importance of horticulture in both nations and expressing a mutual interest in collaborative research endeavors.
Prof. B.N. Triphathi highlighted the critical role of horticulture in ensuring food security and contributing to economic prosperity. He underscored SKUAST-Jammu's commitment to agricultural education, research, and extension.
Prof. Parshant Bakshi, Head of Fruit Science at SKUAST-Jammu, played a key role in initiating the collaboration. The event featured distinguished speakers from both countries, including experts in horticulture and agriculture.
The presentations covered a spectrum of topics, including horticulture research and innovation, opportunities for foreign nationals in education and fellowships, advances in tissue culture propagation of fruit crops, and current research on marigolds.
Prof. Vikas Tandon, Dean Horticulture and Forestry, SKUAST-Jammu, and Prof. Suryo, Dean of Agriculture at IPB University, Indonesia, delivered closing remarks.
Prof. Dewi Sukma and her team coordinated the event, ensuring a smooth flow of discussions and presentations. The moderation was conducted by Dr. Kristani and Dr. Sintho W. Ardie from IPB University.
Directors, Deans, Faculty members, and students from SKUAST-Jammu and IPB Indonesia actively participated in the webinar, creating a platform for meaningful interactions and shared learning.
The efforts led by Dr. Parshant Bakshi and the collaborative spirit demonstrated in this webinar signify a substantial step forward in promoting cross-cultural knowledge exchange between India and Indonesia. The discussions and presentations hold great promise for the development of resilient and sustainable horticultural practices that can address the challenges of a changing climate and evolving market demands.
