JAMMU, Dec 25: Ajay Kumar Sadhotra, Additional General Secretary of Jammu & Kashmir National Conference and former Minister, has accused the double engine government, led by the BJP, at the Centre of betraying the refugees of Jammu and Kashmir, particularly those from Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK). The meeting was Presided by Sardar Parvinder Singh Block President Gandhi Nagar, Mr Chander Mohan Sharma District President Jammu Urban JKNC, Jammu, apprised the senior functionaries about the problems being faced by the people of Block No 3 Gaddigarh with regard to shortage of basic amenities like scarcity of power, water, roads, and medical facilities and civic amenities, etc.
Addressing a meeting at Block No 3, Gaddi Garh area here today, the senior NC leader stated, "The PoJK refugees have been feeling deceived. The commitment made to them by the BJP-led Central Government has not been fulfilled. Despite our government under Omar Abdullah's leadership identifying over 36,000 refugee families in Jammu and Kashmir, their plight remains unaddressed."
"Our government recommended a comprehensive compensation of Rs 25 lakh per refugee family for one time settlement. This was further bolstered by a Parliamentary panel's recommendation of Rs 30 lakh per family. However, the present Government at the Centre headed by PM Modi has failed miserably in this regard, providing a meager Rs 5 lakh per family, thus betraying the refugees," added Sadhotra.
The senior National Conference leader assured that if voted to power, the National Conference would strive to provide the remainder of the compensation to the refugees by engaging with the Centre.
Rattan Lal Gupta called on the party's workers to actively counter the misleading campaigns propagated by BJP leaders, emphasizing the growing unrest and chaos prevalent across the region which added to the turmoil. It is our duty as members of the National Conference to step up and counter these negative narratives with truth and integrity" as the National Conference has always stood for the aspirations of our people. He Urging party workers to engage directly with the public, Rattan Lal added, "Our role is not just to contest elections but to be the voice of the people.
Sheikh Bashir Ahmed, Provincial Secretary, JKNC, Jammu, emphasized the Party's commitment to restore stability and address the pressing concerns of the people in Jammu and Kashmir. He urged party workers to remain steadfast and dedicated in the mission to bring peace and prosperity to the region.
