Chargesheet presented against naib sarpanch, property dealers
12/29/2023 11:55:50 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 29: In a significant development, the Economic Offences Wing – Crime Branch Jammu, has filed a comprehensive 544-page charge-sheet against two accused, including naib Sarpanch Rajinder Singh and property dealer Karanjeet Singh, in connection with a land fraud case. The charge-sheet was presented in the Hon’ble Court of law for judicial determination after their involvement in criminal conspiracy, cheating, and duping the complainant was established.
Accused and Charges:
Karanjeet Singh: Son of Sain Dass, Resident of Badyal Qazian, Suchetgarh, R.S. Pura District Jammu.
Rajinder Singh @ Rinku (Naib Sarpanch): Son of Sh. Parshotam Singh, Resident of Sidher,
Suchetgarh, R.S Pura, Jammu.
The case originated from a written complaint lodged by Maqsood Ahmed, a resident of Drawtay Tehsil R.S. Pura, Jammu. Ahmed alleged that on December 25, 2020, he purchased a 15 Marlas plot of land at Drawtay Tehsil R.S Pura from the accused Karanjeet Singh and Rajinder Singh for Rs. 27 lakhs. An advance payment of Rs. 15 lakhs was made, and the remaining Rs. 10 lakhs were deposited in Rajinder Singh’s account by cheque, with an additional Rs. 5 lakhs paid in cash to Karanjeet Singh.
After signing the agreement deed, Ahmed approached the accused for the balance payment and execution of the sale deed, but they refused. When he requested a refund, the accused not only declined but also threatened Ahmed, warning of harm to his family if he insisted on the refund. Subsequently, the cheques issued by the accused bounced due to insufficient funds, leaving Ahmed defrauded under the pretext of selling the land.
Upon receiving the complaint, a Preliminary Verification was conducted, establishing the prima-facie substantiation of the allegations. A formal case was registered, and during the investigation, material evidence in the form of documentary records was collected. Statements of complainants and witnesses were recorded, revealing the accused’s role in cheating and duping Ahmed of Rs. 20 lakhs. Despite non-cooperation from the accused, Crime Branch Jammu arrested them on December 6, 2023, and December 7, 2023.
The Economic Offences Wing – Crime Branch Jammu presented the charge-sheet against Karanjeet Singh and Rajinder Singh in the Court of law, marking a crucial step towards legal proceedings in the case. The charges include criminal conspiracy, cheating, and duping the complainant in a land sale transaction.
This development underscores the commitment of the Crime Branch Jammu in addressing economic offenses and upholding justice in cases of fraud and malpractice.
