REASI, Jan 2: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi, operating under the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies Jammu (SKUAST-J), initiated a two-day training program focused on natural farming. This initiative, part of the "Up scaling of Natural Farming" project, commenced in Kans Brahmna village, Reasi district, Jammu and Kashmir, drawing active participation from numerous local farmers.
The training program, held under the visionary leadership of Hon'ble Vice Chancellor Prof. BN Tripathi and the able guidance of Director Extension Prof. Amrish Vaid of SKUAST-J, aimed to equip farmers with the knowledge and practices essential for natural farming. Dr. Banarsi Lal, Sr. Scientist and Head of KVK, Reasi, extended a warm welcome to participants and emphasized the significance of natural farming in the region.
Dr. Banarsi Lal highlighted the vast potential for natural farming in Reasi district, emphasizing its role in generating increased income for farmers while producing safe and nutritious food. He underscored the importance of chemical-free and healthy food for a thriving society and positioned natural farming as a key contributor to this goal. Dr. Banarsi Lal stressed the need for a community-based approach in adopting natural farming practices.
During the program, the Sr. Scientist delved into the fundamentals of natural farming, emphasizing its agro-ecology-based approach, integration of crops, trees, livestock, and functional biodiversity. He discussed the pivotal role of farm fields as a source of organic matter and explained the use of indigenous seeds and bioinoculants in natural farming. The Sr. Scientist also demonstrated the preparation of Jeevamrit and Beejamrit, elaborating on practices such as mulching, Acchadana, and various biocontrol agents crucial for natural farming.
Additionally, Dr. Banarsi Lal covered the preparation of Panchgavya, fermented buttermilk, cow urine, Dasharpani, and other key components of natural farming. He highlighted the promise of natural farming in reducing farmers' dependence on external inputs, lowering cultivation costs, and increasing overall income.
Awardee farmers, Ram Lal and Bansi Lal, shared their experiences with natural farming, enriching the program with practical insights. The training program also included the distribution of inputs required for natural farming formulations among the participants. The farmers displayed keen interest in the technologies presented by the experts, expressing conviction in their application.
Manohar Lal of KVK, Reasi, played a pivotal role in organizing logistics and mobilizing farmers for the training program. The event concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Dr. Banarsi Lal, acknowledging the active participation and enthusiasm of the farmers.
