NIA strikes at core of terror outfits, separatist organizations

Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 2: In a determined move to dismantle the intricate network supporting terrorism in Kashmir, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has intensified its operations, striking at the core of terror outfits and separatist organizations.
An observer while talking to Early Times said, “The NIA has gone beyond targeting armed terrorists, the agency has focused on disrupting the financial and logistical pipelines that fuel terror activities, sending a strong message to those aiding and abetting violent agendas.”
“The NIA’s recent successes speak volumes about its comprehensive approach. The agency has exposed the nexus between terror outfits and seemingly legitimate businesses. Similarly, the crackdown on illegal cross-border trade routes used for smuggling weapons and drugs disrupts the supply lines crucial for sustaining terror operations. These proactive measures have made it increasingly difficult for terror groups to operate with impunity,” he added.
“The NIA is working tirelessly to dismantle the entire terror ecosystem in Kashmir,” said an official. “We are not just focused on catching the trigger-pullers, but also those who enable their activities. Targeting financial channels, logistics networks, and propaganda machinery weakens the foundation of terror outfits and makes it harder for them to recruit and operate.”

cases are yielding significant results. The agency’s success in securing convictions in high-profile cases demonstrates its effectiveness in bringing perpetrators to justice,” he added.
“By targeting not just the guns but the entire support network, the agency is chipping away at the bedrock of violence and paving the way for a more peaceful future for the region. With unwavering commitment and continued public support, the NIA’s efforts have led to decline in terrorism in Kashmir,” the official said.
Its in place to mention here that four terrorist organisations -- The Resistance Force (TRF), People’s Anti-Fascists Front (PAFF), Jammu & Kashmir Ghaznavi Force (JKGF) and Khalistan Tiger Force (KTF)were banned in response to the proposal submitted by the NIA.
According to the NIA officials the conviction rate soared at 94.70 percent in 2023, 625 people were arrested, and the attachment of assets totaling around Rs 56 crore was done last year.
Noteworthy categories included 65 arrests in IS cases, 114 in jihadi terror cases, and 76 related to Left-Wing Extremism (LWE). The agency registered a total of 68 cases in 2023, covering a broad spectrum of terror-related incidents. “The number of persons chargesheeted and convicted stood, respectively, at 513 and 74, as against 459 and 79 in 2022. The 74 accused convicted during 2023 were sentenced to various quantums of ‘Rigorous Imprisonment’ and ‘Fines’ as punishment,” as per NIA.
