Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 3: In a crucial meeting today, a prominent delegation led by Ganesh Khajuria, Chairman of the Jammu Kashmir Teachers Forum (JKTF), along with President Mohd Shafi Rather and other senior leaders, convened with Sh. Alok Kumar, the Principal Secretary of the School Education Department, Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory (UT). The primary focus of the discussion was to address pressing issues and long-standing demands concerning the teaching community and the welfare of students in government schools across Jammu and Kashmir UT.
Key points discussed during the meeting included:
Pending adjustment of Headmasters promoted on February 15, 2023, leading to around 700 existing vacancies, causing disruption in schools.
Urgent filling of vacancies for Principals, ZEOs, and Lecturers, with approximately 3000 vacancies for Lecturers still unfilled.
Pending DPC for the promotion of Teachers to Masters in Jammu.
Promotion and regularization of PG Masters/Teachers with degrees obtained through Distance/Correspondence modes.
Comprehensive Transfer Policy for teachers, addressing marriage and health grounds, particularly for female teachers.
Identification and filling of frozen vacancies for Non-Gazetted Staff, shifting Grade-II and Grade-III teachers to substantive posts.
Parity in salary, allowances, grade, and other emoluments for teachers in Jammu and Kashmir UT compared to other UTs.
Enhancement of Medical Allowance for employees due to prolonged static allowances and increased inflation.
Timely updating of final seniority lists for various PG subjects.
Implementation of running grades for Officers in the School Education Department.
Addressing shortages in ministerial staff in High Schools, Higher Secondaries, ZEO, and CEO offices.
Resolution of pay disparity for Masters in the pre-revised pay scale and removal of anomalies for teachers appointed under SRO 202 in 2019.
The Principal Secretary, after patiently listening to the concerns, assured the delegation that several issues were already in progress, and he provided on-the-spot directions for the remaining matters. He pledged to address all genuine demands in a time-bound manner.
The delegation included notable members such as Mohd Shafi Rather, Darshan Sharma, Jamat Ali Agah, Kuldeep Singh Bandral, Kuldeep Verma, P.D. Singh, Bharat Bhushan Sharma, and Subash Chander. The fruitful meeting concluded with optimism for positive developments in the education sector in Jammu and Kashmir.
