Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 3: In a united front, employees of Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) in Jammu & Kashmir, representing various classes and associations, organized widespread demonstrations today to voice their long-standing demands. Led by the Federation of LIC CLASS-1 OFFICERS' Association, NFIFWI, and Northern Zone Insurance Employees' Association, the protesters called for urgent attention to key issues affecting LIC employees.
Addressing a large gathering at the D.O. Cell in Jammu, Com. Jatinder Bhat, President of the Federation of LIC CLASS-1 OFFICERS' Association, expressed dissatisfaction with the central government's response to their demands. The leaders specifically criticized the delay in increasing the Corporation's contribution to the National Pension System (NPS) from 10% to 14%. Despite the LIC Board's recommendation to the Ministry of Finance, the demand has yet to be met, causing concerns for employees under NPS appointed after April 1, 2010.
Furthermore, the wage revision for LIC employees, pending since August 1, 2022, remains unresolved. The employee representatives stressed that negotiations with the management have not commenced, despite submitting the charter of demands. The demonstrators emphasized the urgency of initiating negotiations, given the considerable time that has passed since the wage revision was due.
The demand for recruitment across all cadres was also a focal point of the demonstration, with leaders asserting the necessity of infusing young talent into the organization. The leaders condemned the unilateral approach of the management and issued a warning of intensifying their agitation if their demands are not promptly addressed.
Prominent speakers at the event included Sh. Rakesh Magotra, President of NFIFWI, and Comrade Pawan Gupta, Divisional Secretary of Northern Zone Insurance Employees' Association. The leaders announced their determination to escalate the agitation if their demands remain unmet. Shreshtha Sharma, Priya Sharma, Dinesh Kumar Sharma, Dharminder Kumar, Rajesh Kumar, Raj Kumar, Neeraj Bhagat, and others also voiced their concerns during the demonstration. The unity displayed by LIC employees underscores their commitment to securing their rights and improvements in working conditions.
