Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 5: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) organized a Sensitization cum Helmet Awareness drive at Narwal Chowk in Jammu to commemorate its 77th foundation day. This annual celebration takes place across all BIS offices in India, with the Jammu & Kashmir Branch office engaging consumers, students, and industries in various awareness initiatives
The drive aimed to raise awareness about the BIS Care app, ISI Marked products, and BIS Hallmark. It was conducted in collaboration with J&K Traffic Police.
The drive was inaugurated by SSP Traffic City Jammu Police, M. Fiesel Qureshi, accompanied by Addl. SP Traffic, Rajpal Singh, and his team. Qureshi commended BIS for the initiative and encouraged 2-wheeler riders to use ISI Marked helmets
The gathered 2-wheeler riders and general consumers were informed about the BIS Care App and its uses. Students from Siksha Niketan Higher Secondary School, Jammu, actively participated in the event by distributing pamphlets and assisting the BIS team and Traffic Police.
Pankaj Atri, Joint Director, and Niraj Mishra, Asst. Director of BIS Jammu & Kashmir Branch office emphasized that only ISI Marked helmets, as per IS 4151 standards, should be worn while driving to ensure proper protection in case of an accident.
Consumers were advised to verify the genuineness of ISI Mark on products before purchase. Fake ISI marked products can pose risks, and the public was encouraged to use the BIS website www.bis.gov.in or the BIS Care App to check the authenticity of the ISI mark.
To combat the misuse of ISI marks, the public was urged to report instances to the Head, Jammu & Kashmir Branch Office of BIS. Complaints can be submitted via email at [email protected] or [email protected], or by calling at Telephone No. 01923-222690. The identity of the informants will be kept confidential. The initiative not only promoted road safety through helmet awareness but also empowered consumers with tools to verify the authenticity of ISI marks, ensuring the purchase of genuine and safe products.
