Amit Sharma, Spearheads Innovation at India International Science Festival

NEW DELHI, Jan 19: Amit Sharma, the Administrative Secretary of Science and Technology in the Union Territory of Ladakh, played a pivotal role in the ongoing India International Science Festival 2023, hosted in Faridabad, Haryana (NCR Delhi). The four-day event has attracted participants from over 20 countries, fostering discussions on critical global scientific issues and outlining strategies for the future.
Accompanied by Tsering Angchuk, Deputy Chairman of Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh, Amit Sharma actively participated in a panel discussion moderated by Dr. Satish K. Agnihotri, an IIT Mumbai alumnus. The focus of the discussion centered on fortifying Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) ecosystems in different states and Union Territories across India, with insights contributed by delegates from Arunachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat, and Jharkhand.
Amit Sharma highlighted Ladakh's unique ecosystem and stressed the strategic importance of fostering innovation in the region. He outlined plans for the creation of a Bio-Technology Park and the development of mechanisms to support start-ups in aromatic plants, aligning the vision with Ladakh's sustainable development potential.
During the conference, Sharma and Deputy Chairman Angchuk addressed international delegates, showcasing Ladakh's commitment to carbon neutrality and the groundbreaking initiative of launching hydrogen-fuel buses, receiving a standing ovation from the global audience.
In a parallel meeting with Dr. Arvind Sahu, Director of the Regional Centre for Biotechnology (RCB), Sharma and Angchuk discussed Ladakh's endeavors towards carbon neutrality, the establishment of biotech parks, promotion of biotechnology start-ups, and sought support from RCB for these initiatives. The commitment of UT Ladakh to position itself as a hub for scientific and technological advancements was underscored.
Amit Sharma's leadership at the India International Science Festival 2023 not only reflects a dedication to scientific progress but also emphasizes Ladakh's commitment to sustainable and innovative solutions. As Ladakh strides toward a future defined by technological excellence, Sharma's leadership serves as a guiding light for the region.
