SKUAST-J conducts Awareness-cum-Demonstration on Agri-Drones in Reasi

Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technologies of Jammu (SKUAST-J) conducted two days awareness-cum-demonstrations on agri-drones technology here at Sirah, Sool, Kotla and Bhakta villages of Reasi district of J&K which was attended by a number of farmers/women farmers/FPOs members/rural youths of the area. The programme was organized under the dynamic leadership of Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. B.N. Tripathi and able guidance of Director Extension, Prof.Amrish Vaid of SKUAST-J. The programme was coordinated by the Principal Investigator (PI) of the project, Dr.Sanjay Khajuria, Sr.Scientist & Head KVK, Samba and Sr.Scientist, Directorate of Extension, SKUAST-J, Dr.Pawan Sharma. The major objective of the programme was to create awareness among the farmers and guide them on the agri-drone technology. Sr.Scientist & Head of KVK, Reasi, Dr.Banarsi Lal while addressing the farmers said that drone technology is an advanced agricultural technology which is still in a nascent stage. He informed that this technology is an emerging technology which reduces time and increases the efficiency of the chemicals which ultimately will help to increase the agricultural production and productivity. He also informed that drone technology is an unmanned aerial vehicle used in agriculture operations mostly in yield optimization and in monitoring crop growth protection and production.
He added that agri-drones provide information on crop growth stages, crop health and soil variations. He further said that agri-drones sprays uniformly and saves about 80-90% of water and pesticide cost. He also guided farmers on natural farming to produce healthy and safe food. DDM NABARD Reasi, Sh.Adarsh Gupta spoke on the banking literacy and urged farmers to avail benefits of various schemes on agriculture undergoing in the distt. Dr.Lalit Upadhyay explained the benefits of spraying chemicals and informed that drone technology is helpful to minimize the inputs cost on various crops. He added that drone technology is beneficial for the farmers as it can spray chemicals within a short time in maximum area. Avinash Jha explained the features of drones and said that with agri-drones minimize the chemicals use and give more profits to the farmers. Jeet Singh, CEO, Maa Vaishno Devi Lemon Grass Farmers Producers Organization Ltd. stressed on the area expansion under lemon grass crop for more profits especially in monkey affected areas. Experts demonstrated the drone technology in the different villages of the area. Farmers were highly impressed by the demonstration of technology and they were convinced to adopt it. Progressive farmers Tilak andPritam Singh were also present during the programme. Farmers appreciated KVK, Reasi for organizing such a useful programme. The programme was assisted by Sh.Jagdish Kumar and Sh.Manohar Lal and concluded by Sh.Pritam Singh with the formal vote of thanks.
