Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 27: Like many parts of the country, the Jammu and Kashmir Congress is also facing a severe financial crunch due to the non-cooperative attitude of the affluential party leaders.
Sources said that the “Donate for Desh” campaign launched by the party to raise funds through crowdfunding has not received an encouraging response due to the indifferent attitude of the senior leaders.
“What to say of taking this campaign among masses to get donations from all sections of the society, most of the rich Congress donated meagerly for the party”, a source in the Congress said and added that except a couple of senior leaders most of the former ministers, who enjoyed important portfolios, donated meagerly for the party”.
From 2002 to 2014, Congress enjoyed power in the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir for 12 long years, first with the PDP and then with the National Conference.
During 12 years in power, Congress leaders enjoyed very important and plum portfolios.
Sources said that leaders who never enjoyed power donated generously to the party but those who remained in power and amassed huge wealth were not ready to donate as per their capabilities.

“All state and UT units have been directed to raise funds for the day-to-day functioning of the party but the J&K unit has failed to raise adequate funds”, sources said.
Meanwhile, after the “Donate for Desh” campaign, Congress on Saturday launched the “Donate for Nyay’crowdfunding campaign for the ongoing Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra under which people will get a Rahul Gandhi-signed letter or merchandise in return for their donation.
Launching the campaign at the AICC headquarters here along with Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh, Congress treasurer Ajay Maken said the idea behind this initiative and the earlier wider crowdfunding campaign of the party, ‘Donate for Desh’, was not to get money but to motivate workers.
Under the party’s ‘Donate for Nyay’ campaign, any person who donates Rs 670 or more will get a T-shirt signed by Rahul Gandhi as a gift, Maken said.
“Those who donate Rs 67,000 or more will get a ‘Nyay Kit’ which will contain a T-shirt, bag, band, badge, and sticker,” he said.
He said that under the party’s ‘Donate for Desh’ crowdfunding campaign launched on December 18 last year, Rs 20 crore has been collected.
Within two hours of launching the ‘Donate for Nyay’ campaign, Rs 2 crore had been collected, the Congress treasurer said.
