Early Times Report KHOUR, Feb 10: In a collaborative effort aimed at promoting road safety awareness among the youth, the National Service Scheme (NSS) and National Cadet Corps (NCC) units of Government Degree College Khour, in association with the Motor Vehicle Department/RTO Jammu, organized a comprehensive awareness and sensitization programme on road safety. The event, held in observance of National Road Safety Month under the theme "Sadak Suraksha Jeevan Raksha," saw active participation from students and faculty alike. Mrs. Esha Chib, ARTO Jammu, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, imparting valuable insights into key aspects of road safety during her address to the students. She emphasized the importance of understanding traffic signs and signals, adhering to speed limits, and adopting defensive driving practices to anticipate potential hazards and prevent accidents. Additionally, Mrs. Chib stressed the crucial role of wearing helmets and seat belts while driving to ensure personal safety. To further reinforce the message, Sh. Surinder Kumar, Inspector, Motor Vehicle Department, conducted a video presentation on road safety, providing visual examples and scenarios to enhance students' understanding of safe driving practices. Ten students from the college actively participated in a symposium on the topic "Concern for Road Safety," wherein they discussed various facets of road safety and proposed solutions to mitigate risks on the road. The symposium was adjudicated by senior faculty members Prof. Jozafeen Afzal and Prof. Seema Sudan, who evaluated the presentations and deliberations. Addressing the gathering, Prof. (Dr.) T. K Sharma, Principal of the College, urged students to prioritize road safety and become responsible citizens by adhering to traffic regulations. He emphasized the pivotal role of education in fostering a culture of safety consciousness among individuals. The programme concluded with the distribution of certificates of participation to all attendees, acknowledging their commitment to promoting road safety awareness. Additionally, the first three winners of the symposium, Shagun Choudhary, Bhavana Sharma, and Mansi Sharma, were felicitated with mementos in recognition of their contributions. Prof. Chetan Sharma conveyed the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to all participants, organizers, and guests for their valuable contributions to the event's success. The seamless execution of the programme was attributed to the dedicated efforts of Prof. Himanshu Khajuria, NSS Programme Officer, and Prof. Shivani Sharma, NCC Associate Navel Officer, who coordinated the event with precision and diligence. The collaborative initiative underscored the collective commitment towards fostering a safer road environment and instilling a sense of responsibility among the youth to ensure their safety and well-being on the roads. |
