Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 10: Jaya Varma Sinha, the Chairman & Chief Executive Officer of the Railway Board, conducted a thorough inspection of the USBRL (Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Railway Link) project on 9th February 2024, signaling a significant step towards connecting the Kashmir Valley to the broader railway network. Accompanied by esteemed officials including Shobhan Chaudhuri, General Manager/Northern Railway, and Sanjay Gupta, CMD/KRCL, she meticulously reviewed the progress of the project, emphasizing the need to expedite the remaining work.
The inspection commenced from Katra to Tunnel No. T-33 (old T-1), with Jaya Varma Sinha conducting motor trolley inspections and personally examining critical ongoing work within Tunnel T-33. Despite challenging geological conditions, she commended the project team's dedication and adherence to safety protocols, urging them to accelerate the completion of remaining tasks for the Katra-Reasi section linkage.
Continuing the inspection through Tunnel T-34 (old T-2) and beyond, including Anji Bridge, Reasi Station, Bakkal Station, Chenab Bridge, and Dugga railway station, Smt. Jaya Varma Sinha expressed satisfaction with the quality and progress of track, E&M, S&T, and RE works.
At the Chenab Bridge site, she convened with officials from NR, KRCL, and IRCON to review the project's overall progress. While acknowledging the commendable pace of works, she underscored the importance of closely monitoring all remaining tasks, particularly Tunnel T-1 & Sawalkote yard works, to prevent delays.
Despite facing numerous geological, topographical, and meteorological challenges, the USBRL project continues to make strides. Every day, the Indian Railway edges closer to realizing the vision of connecting the Kashmir Valley with the wider railway network, a testament to the relentless efforts of all involved parties.
Jaya Varma Sinha's hands-on inspection and strategic directives reaffirm the commitment of the Railway Board towards expeditiously completing the USBRL project, thereby enhancing connectivity and fostering socio-economic development in the region.
