Jammu, Feb 10: Virtually “ignored” by the leaderships of Congress and the National Conference in discussing seat-sharing arrangements, the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) is going to convene a crucial meeting on February 17 to devise a strategy for the coming Lok Sabha elections. Congress, the National Conference, and the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) are three important constituents of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) bloc in Jammu and Kashmir. Sources said that the PDP leadership has taken serious note of the attitude of the NC and Congress leadership in sidelining the party while discussing seat-sharing among constituents of the INDIA bloc in J&K. Important to mention here that leaders of both the NC and Congress are staking claims on the majority of seats in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. None of the leaders of these parties have announced to take PDP into confidence while discussing seat-sharing arrangements. Highly placed sources said that PDP leadership is not happy with the recent statements of PDP has taken serious note of the attitude of the NC and Congress leadership PDP is unhappy over it being sidelined while discussing seat-sharing in J&K. Recent statements of the NC leaders have annoyed PDP. PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti is presently out of the country for Umrah. he NC leaders who claimed to contest elections on all three seats of Kashmir Valley. Notably, the core group of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on January 29 took stock of the prevailing political situation in J&K and discussed organisational preparedness for taking up people’s issues in a more proactive manner. The meeting held at party headquarters here under the chairmanship of party president Mehbooba Mufti also discussed the strategy for the upcoming general elections. The meeting, according to a spokesperson of the party reiterated its commitment to the unity of purpose and objectives under the banner of INDIA alliance of which it’s a part. The spokesperson said the meeting discussed preliminary plans for the crucial elections that should result in amplifying the awareness about the problems facing the people of the region in the last six years of direct central rule and the absence of democratic institutions. |
