Reasi police detains notorious drug peddler
2/23/2024 10:04:10 PM
Early Times Report
REASI, Feb 23: In a significant development under Operation Jeevandaan, aimed at eradicating drug menace from the region, Reasi Police has detained yet another notorious drug peddler, Bobby Singh Manhas, son of Sher Singh, hailing from Panthal Tehsil Katra District Reasi. Manhas, a repeat offender, has been implicated in multiple cases related to drug trafficking.
The arrest was made under the provisions of the Prevention of Illicit Trafficking in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PITNDPS) Act, following orders issued by the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu. Manhas had been involved in Case FIR No. 133/2022 and FIR No. 25/2024 under sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act at the Katra Police Station. Despite warnings to desist from supplying drugs to the youth of Katra, Manhas persisted in his nefarious activities, prioritizing profits over societal well-being.
Acting on the directives of Mohita Sharma-IPS, Senior Superintendent of Police Reasi, dossiers for Manhas's preventive detention under the Public Safety Act (PSA) were prepared. Subsequently, after obtaining necessary orders from Ramesh Kumar-IAS, the District Commissioner, Jammu, a team from the Katra Police Station apprehended Manhas, who is now incarcerated in Sub Jail, Reasi.
SSP Reasi emphasized the multifaceted approach adopted by the Reasi Police to combat drug abuse. While awareness programs are being conducted extensively across the district, stringent actions are being taken against drug peddlers under the PITNDPS Act. Additionally, an Anti-Drug Helpline Number 9070907017 has been launched for the public, ensuring confidentiality for callers.
Sending a stern message to drug peddlers, SSP Reasi reiterated that there is no tolerance for such criminal activities in Reasi. He urged peddlers to abandon their destructive path and reintegrate into mainstream society, warning of severe consequences otherwise.
The arrest of Bobby Singh Manhas underscores Reasi Police's unwavering commitment to safeguarding public health and ensuring a drug-free future for the region. Operation Jeevandaan continues to be a beacon of hope in the fight against narcotics, reflecting the determination of law enforcement to uphold justice and protect communities.
