Early Times Report
KHOUR, Feb 28: The National Service Scheme (NSS) unit of Government Degree College Khour organized an awareness programme under the theme "Donate Organs-Save Lives" on the 6th Day of the ongoing 07 Days NSS Special Winter Camp.
The event was conducted under the able leadership of Prof. (Dr) T.K. Sharma, Principal and under the supervision of Prof. Himanshu Khajuria, NSS Programme Officer. Anshu Sharma, an official of J&K State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO) was the resource person of the event.
She discussed in detail about the need for organ donation as millions of people all over the world suffer from end stage organ failures and many patients die because of non availability of organs.
As per reports, 15-20 people die each day waiting for an organ transplant in our country. Hence in order to meet the huge demand of human organs, a vast awareness is required among the youth of the country regarding organ donation.
She made aware students regarding different types of potential donors and who cannot be donor. She shared various stories of youngest cadaver organ donors to inspire youth for this noble cause as organ donation serves an opportunity to live after life. She elaborated in detail various myths and facts associated with organ donation.
The Principal of the College appealed to the students to spread the awareness for the organ donation among masses of their locality. The event was witnessed by a large number of NSS volunteers and NCC cadets of the College. The event culminated with the organ donation pledge. Dr. Tasleem, HOD Zoology, presented formal vote of thanks.
