Leh observes shut down
3/6/2024 10:52:52 PM

Early Times Report

Leh, Mar 6: Following failed talks between Ladakh leaders and Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA)-constituted sub-committee, a bandh was observed in Leh town today.
All religious organizations have given a call for complete shutdown in Ladakh on Wednesday.
Religious organizations had also planned a massive rally at Polo Ground in Leh town. However, the UT administration has denied permission for the gathering at that location, directing the groups to hold the rally at NDS Stadium Leh instead.
The administration cited the designation of Leh Polo Ground for public parking as the reason for the refusal.
Interestingly, organizers of the rally have been instructed to provide the police with a list of slogans and individuals who will be raising them in advance.
On February 3 this year, Ladakh witnessed a complete shutdown as protestors demanded statehood and constitutional protections under the sixth schedule for the Union Territory.
Notably, Sonam Wangchuk, the renowned education reformist and inspiration behind a character in the Bollywood movie “3 Idiots,” announced a 21-day “climatic fast” starting tomorrow to support the campaign for the protection of Ladakh's fragile environment.
