GDC Udhampur hosts insightful lecture on "Invest in Women

UDHAMPUR, Mar 11: In commemoration of International Women's Day, the Department of Sociology at GDC Udhampur organized a thought-provoking lecture on the theme "Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress" in the conference hall. The event, held under the patronage of Principal Prof. (Dr.) Romesh Kumar Gupta, aimed to honor women's achievements, recognize their contributions to society, and advocate for gender equality.
The program commenced with a warm welcome extended to the esteemed resource person, Prof. Tania Akhter from the Department of English at GDC Udhampur, by Prof. Anoksha Sharma, Head of the Sociology Department. Prof. Sharma underscored the historical significance of International Women's Day, emphasizing its role in renewing commitments toward gender equality.
Prof. Tania Akhter delivered an enlightening lecture on the theme "Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress." She elaborated on the importance of equipping women with resources and opportunities to foster their personal and economic growth, fulfillment, and empowerment. Prof. Akhter stressed the necessity of prioritizing investments in women across various domains such as education, health, economic empowerment, and leadership to expedite progress towards gender equality. Additionally, she shed light on the challenges impeding women's full participation and inclusion in society. Principal Prof. (Dr.) Romesh Kumar Gupta expressed his appreciation for the courage, potential, and strength of Nari Shakti (women power). He highlighted the significance of such events in acknowledging women's achievements, promoting discussions on gender parity, and advocating for substantive transformation.
The event was attended by esteemed faculty members including Prof. B.L. Thakur, Prof. Rajni Kumari, Prof. Jagjeet Singh, and Prof. Shivi Mehra, among others, who graced the occasion with their presence.
