Rains lash plains in Kashmir, Gulmarg receives fresh snowfall

SRINAGAR, Mar 13: Rains lashed the plains in Kashmir while upper reaches including the tourist destinations of Gulmarg and Sonamarg received fresh snowfall on Wednesday.
Light to moderate rains were lashed at most parts of the Kashmir valley while Ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir's Baramulla district and tourist spot of Sonamarg in central Kashmir received a fresh snowfall today.
Reports of snowfall were also received from Gurez valley and Tuail in Bandipora district of north Kashmir and Leh in Union Territory of Ladakh.
Meteorological Centre Srinagar has predicted that widespread light to moderate rain or snow coupled with the thunder over Jammu and Kashmir during the next 24 hours.
The weather will remain partially to generally cloudy today with the possibility of widespread rain or snow at most of the places over Jammu and Kashmir.
The weather is likely to remain dry from March 15 to March 20, the MeT office said.
Gulmarg and tourist hot spot of Pahalgam recorded subzero temperatures while other stations also witnessed a slight drop during the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday. However, the temperatures were recorded above normal in all the stations of Kashmir valley during this period of the season.
Srinagar witnessed a slight drop in the night temperature recorded at a low of 5.40C during the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday against the 5.90C previous night. It was 1.70C above normal for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir.
Qazigund on Srinagar-Jammu national highway in south Kashmir recorded a low of 3.40C against the 5.80C while the picnic spot of Kokernag also settled at 4.20C against the 4.40C recorded the previous night.
