BJP issues second list
Maintains silence over candidates for Ladakh, Anantnag seats

Early Times Report

Jammu, Mar 13: Even as BJP released the second list of candidates for the coming Lok Sabha elections, no decision yet has been made on the Anantnag-Rajouri and Ladakh parliamentary seats. During the first list which was released during the first week of this month, the names of Dr. Jitendra Singh and Jugal Kishore Sharma were cleared for the Udhampur-Doda and Jammu-Reasi Lok Sabha seats. Both the incumbent Lok Sabha members have been asked to again contest elections on the seats which they have won in two successive elections.
Highly placed sources said that the BJP is exploring all options before declaring candidates for the Anantnag-Rajouri and Ladakh Lok Sabha seats.
Sources said that BJP leadership has yet decided to repeat sitting Lok Sabha member of Ladakh Jamyang Tsering Namgyal like other members of the erstwhile state of J&K.
“Had the party decided to repeat Jamyang Tsering Namgyal his name would have been announced in the first list along with Dr. Jitendra Singh and Jugal Kishore Sharma”, a senior BJP leader told The Early Times.
Wishing for anonymity, the leader said that it is all due to immature behaviour and casual approach of the sitting Lok Sabha Jamyang Tsering Namgyal that ongoing agitating in Ladakh is spread in the cold desert.
In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections the BJP candidate Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, who was then sitting Chairman-cum-CEC of LAHDC Leh recorded an impressive victory margin of 10,930 votes over NC, PDP, and Islamiya School Kargil joint candidate, Sajjad Kargili. Namgayal polled 42,914 votes as against Sajjad Karigili’s 31984.
As far as the Anantnag-Rajouri Lok Sabha seat is concerned, the BJP is focussing on the Parliamentary segment to open its account in Kashmir Valley.
Although J&K BJP president Ravinder Raina is striving to get the party’s mandate on this seat, no final decision has been taken so far.
Apart from Ravinder Raina’s name, the BJP is also thinking over the name of a young IAS officer for this seat.
