JKNPP protests outside Nirvachan Bhawan
3/13/2024 10:24:01 PM
Early Times Report
JAMMU, Mar 13: JKNPP activists led by its President Harsh Dev Singh held a massive protest outside Nirvachan Bhawan Jammu coinciding with the visit of Election Commission to the UT seeking restoration of democracy in J&K and conduct of simultaneous elections for Parliament and Assembly in a fair and transparent manner. The NPP activists raised the slogans against the Central and UT govts of denying the democratic rights to the people of J&K who were subjected to the most unpopular 'babu raj' imposed by New Delhi. They further criticized the ECI for remaining a mute spectator for the last around 6 years when the Assembly was dissolved in 2018 and for abdicating its responsibility to restore a democratically elected govt in J&K. They raised slogans of "TN Seshan amar rahein, amar rahein" as a mark of respect for the then CEC for his honest efforts to ensure fairness and transparency in elections besides giving a fair deal and equitable treatment to all the political parties. Harsh Dev Singh along with other leaders were restrained, manhandled and arrested by JK Police. They were detained at Trikuta Nagar Police Station.
Speaking on the occasion, Harsh Dev Singh lambasted the UT administration for conferring undue favours upon BJP and its allies while subjecting the opposition parties to most hostile discrimination even in the matter of security, accommodation, etc. In a memorandum addressed to CEC and submitted in Nirvachan Bhawan today, Singh pointed out that over 30 BJP leaders had been provided Estates mansions and palatial bungalows by the govt with all furniture, fixtures, ACs, refrigerators and other luxury items at govt expense while throwing out even the tallest opposition leaders of similar accommodation. He revealed that even unrecognized parties like JKAP and PC had been provided palatial govt bungalows both in Jammu as well as in Kashmir for running their political offices while denying the same to the recognized political parties. Likewise, he divulged that security vehicles, govt vehicles besides huge paraphernalia of security personnel were provided to even the village level workers of BJP and its said allies while denying even the bare minimum security to opposition leaders who remained legislators for decades besides having Cabinet rank ministers and heads of political parties.
Singh said that pliant officers owing allegiance to BJP had been assigned prominent positions from where they could help the Saffron party in elections and promote their political prospects. Citing instances of some of the officers who had vowed to demolish the opposition parties, Harsh Dev Singh said that they had been given significant positions only to help the ruling party.
Singh further lambasted the BJP for persuading ECI to deny appointment to NPP which is a recognized political party in J&K. He said that while other recognized parties were given audience by ECI and a hearing to listen to their grievances, the NPP despite being a recognized State party was ignored only at the behest of BJP in view of latter facing a threat from the Panthers ever rising graph and popularity among the masses.
